Pillars of Islam

Pillars of Islam
Pillars of Islam

Pillars of Islam : An Islamic term that refers to the five foundations on which the religion of Islam is built , and is indicated by the hadith : “Islam is built on five.”It was mentioned in the hadiths of the Prophet in several forms.

without doubt, and a statement that there is no god in existence but God , and that Muhammad is a messenger sent to people by God. The text of the testimony is: I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God . This text is recited daily in Muslim prayers, and it is also the main key to a non-Muslim’s entry into Islam.

The two testimonies are the first and most important pillars , as they are the key by which a person enters the circle of Islam. As for the first part of it, “There is no god but God,” it means that a person speaks with his tongue and acknowledges at the same time with his heart , acknowledges his limbs, and acts as required by this word – so words, actions, and the heart must be inseparable. That there is no god but God , and upon him the Muslim relies, and testimony also requires that a person believes that there is no creator of this universe but God alone without a partner, and there is no second or third god to be worshiped with him.

As for the testimony that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, it means that you believe that the Prophet Muhammad (may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family) was sent by God as a mercy to the worlds, as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner to all creation, and to believe that his law abrogates the laws that preceded it. The Quran mentioned : And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.  ( Al Imran verse 85).

It also requires that a person take from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family) what he commanded to be taken and refrain from what he forbade.

It is noticeable that the fact that the two testimonies are one pillar is a clear indication that worship can only be completed in two matters: sincerity of worship to God alone, following the methodology of the Messenger in this worship, and not deviating from what the Messenger enacted for the nation.

Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him – said: “Islam is built on five: testifying that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, establishing prayer, paying zakat, fasting Ramadan, and making a pilgrimage to the House for those who can afford it.” » And he also said: “The peak of the matter is Islam, its pillar is prayer, and its peak is jihad in the way of God.”,  Prayer is obligatory for every adult, sane Muslim, male or female , Prayer was imposed in Mecca before the migration of the Prophet Muhammad to Yathrib in the third year of the Prophet’s mission , during the Isra’ and Mi’raj journey, according to Islamic belief.

Prayer in Islam has been imposed five times a day on Muslims, and it takes place at five different times throughout the day, and these times are: dawn , noon , afternoon , sunset , and dinner .In Islam, prayer is performed five times a day, obligatory for every sane adult Muslim free of excuses, in addition to other types of prayer that are practiced on different occasions and times, such as the Eid prayer, the funeral prayer, the rain prayer, and the eclipse prayer .

Prayer is considered a means of monologue between the servant – who has reached a dream and has become obligated – and his Lord.

Giving zakat is a financial  act of worship imposed by God on His servants, to purify their souls from miserliness, and for their records from sins .

God has imposed two zakat on Muslims, zakat al-Fitr , which is paid after the month of Ramadan, and zakat on money in specific types.

Zakat is paid in its eight channels to the poor and needy.. This obligation is waived from destitute people who do not have anything.

month of Ramadan . Ramadan is considered a great season in which acts of worship abound, and it is a blessed month in which mercy descends and in which the servant renews his covenant with God, and draws closer to Him through acts of worship. Fasting Ramadan has many virtues, as God has guaranteed for those who fasted in faith and in anticipation of forgiveness for their past sins and other virtues and reward for those who fasted in faith in God and in anticipation of the reward.

A Muslim fasts from food and drink and abstains from idle talk, gossip, marital intimacy and every bad deed from dawn (i.e.: from the beginning of the dawn prayer time) to sunset (the first time of the sunset prayer). He spends all his day in worship, remembrance, recitation of the Qur’an, and science lessons that give him faith that suffices him for the rest of the year.

This obligation is waived for those who are not able to fast, such as a severe illness that obliges them to take medication, or as a patient with stomach ulcers who cannot eat and drink on an empty stomach.

Hajj is the visit of the Grand Mosque in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the performance of the Hajj. God imposed this duty on every adult Muslim who is able to afford the costs of Hajj. In the Qur’an : _ _ _ _ God has enjoined Hajj as a purification for souls, and to educate them on the meanings of servitude, obedience and patience, in addition to being a great opportunity to expiate sins, as it came in the hadith on the authority of Abu Hurairah: “Whoever performs Hajj to this House and does not commit any obscenity or immorality, he will return as the day his mother gave birth to him.  ”
